1. Artistic excellence: an evaluation based both on previous work and on the vision developed in the proposal (including the proposed use of (digital) technology in tackling the regional challenges)
• previous experience
• vision in the proposal2. Innovation potential: an evaluation of the quality and strength of the proposal in terms of its potential to be linked with concepts of innovation or sustainability: the willingness to experiment and prototype to achieve innovation spill overs.
• the fit of selected technology with the challenge
• foreseen experiments
• novel/ innovative character of the proposal
• portfolio entries (proof of the artists’ ability to go from the conceptual to the development stage)3. Experiment & Prototype
• expected relevance of the outcome(s)4. Implementation fit: an evaluation of the proposal’s links with the needs and goals of a) the program, b) the partners, as well as its feasibility within the given time and budget.
• feasible implementation
• fit with challenge (see challenge booklet for all challenges)
• fit with Fellowship partner
• fit with Regional Centre
• alignment with Repairing the Present program5. Regional Challenge fit
expected collaboration fit6. Planning & Budget
realistic, achievable
A breve i nominativi verranno ufficialmente comunicati.
On 20 January I was part of the jury of the MAXXI Foundation in Rome to identify the winners of the European call S+T+ARTS – Repairing the Present. The award is based on the collaboration of Sony CSL Paris and the MAXXI Foundation for two artistic-scientific residencies that will be organized between February and June 2022 and whose open call was launched on Friday 15 October 2021.
S+T+ARTS Regional Centers “Repairing the Present” is a project funded by the European Commission and based on fair, sustainable and unconventional values and innovations of the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus.
“Repairing the present” involves the interaction among art, science and technology aimed at redesigning post-Covid-19 urban ecosystems. The project will therefore be focused on building new meaningful representations of our reality, through a seamless fusion of artistic and technological tools, from data science to machine learning and artificial intelligence.
We had to choose two projects from six proposals in two main realms: the first one focused on “Big Data and the City”, and the second one on “Improving Urban Sustainability, according to the following criteria:
Regional Challenge fit

realistic, achievable
In my opinion, the Jury did a great job in identifying the two winner proposals, which will receive funding of 40,000 euros to carry out the projects that will be exhibited at the MAXXI Foundation in Rome. Soon the names will be officially communicated.
