Un mio articolo, “Umano e non umano. Appunti su un’ottusa conflittualità”, è stato pubblicato sulla rivista d’arte Espoarte (n.110, Anno XXI, Trimestre n.3, 2020). Grazie a Livia Savorelli, che del magazine è Direttore Editoriale, che mi ha chiesto di trarre l’articolo dal saggio “L’umanità controversa. Riflessioni tra speranza e futuro a partire da Greta Thunberg”, che avevo pubblicato su Noema in italiano e in inglese (“Ambiguous humanity. Some reflections between hope and future starting from Greta Thunberg”).

Mi fa molto piacere che riflessioni che non sono direttamente collegate all’arte ma riguardano la crisi climatica in atto, l’impatto della cultura umana sul Pianeta e sul “non umano”, la consapevolezza dei vantaggi e dei limiti del simbolico, il “tempo” del clima e la dimensione intergenerazionale…, siano state considerate così importanti da aprire il numero che celebra i 20 anni di Espoarte. Significa promuovere attenzione nei confronti di alcuni dei nodi e delle contraddizioni della contemporaneità, discutere il ruolo dell’umano nel suo rapporto con l’ambiente in cui vive, inteso in senso lato, interrogarsi sul futuro. In realtà questo interesse non dovrebbe stupire, dato che, sosteneva McLuhan, l’artista è l'”uomo della consapevolezza integrale”, e che, come ho scritto più volte, oggi le forme artistiche più interessanti possono essere considerate come una sorta di “filosofia della contemporaneità”.

An article of mine, “Umano e non umano. Appunti su un’ottusa conflittualità (Human and non-human. Notes on an obtuse conflict)”, has been published in the art magazine Espoarte (n.110, Year XXI, Quarter n.3, 2020). Thanks to Livia Savorelli, who is the Editorial Director of the magazine, who asked me to take the article from the essay “Controversial humanity. Reflections between hope and future starting from Greta Thunberg”, which I published in Noema in Italian and English (“Ambiguous humanity. Some reflections between hope and future starting from Greta Thunberg”).

I am very pleased that some reflections that are not directly related to art but concern the climate crisis in progress, the impact of human culture on the planet and on the “non-human”, the awareness of the advantages and limits of the symbolic, the “time” of climate and the intergenerational dimension…, have been considered important enough to open the issue of Espoarte that celebrates 20 years of the magazine. It means promoting attention to some of the knots and contradictions of the contemporary world, discussing the role of the human in its relationship with the environment – intended in a broad sense – where it lives, questioning the future. But indeed this interest should not sound as a surprise since as argued by McLuhan, the artist is the “man of integral awareness”, and, as I wrote several times, today the most interesting art forms can be considered as a sort of “philosophy of contemporaneity”.
